INCHES011: New Wax from Fool’s Gold, Inca Ore, Now-Again (Rare Psych!), Samiyam (MP3s, chart)

Friends, INCHES011 exists. Featuring fresh wax from L.A.’s favorite Eritrean-Hebrew Afrobeat outfit, Fool’s Gold, a limited 10-inch platter from beat music maker Samiyam (via Poo-Bah Records), some experimental goodness from the Not Not Fun label (SF’s Inca Ore), and an incredible international psych/funk/rock/soul comp put together by Stones Throw general manager, Eothen “Egon” Alapatt. Can I get a Twit-ness?

Best Of Supplement: Coffee + Stones Throw, Shafiq Husayn, HEALTH’s Golden Ticket, & Leaving MP3s

Four more for good measure: L.A. bests from the Weekly’s blog, half-disguised as news stories, all worthy of your attention. If you like it, then you better put a tweet on it.

*This is taking place of the “news roundup” for the week.

INCHES009: Manimal Special ft. Hecuba, Chapin Sisters, Rainbow Arabia, Warpaint (Q&A, MP3s)

INCHES009 is the first installment of the column to focus entirely on one label. In this case, it’s local indie Manimal Vinyl, who are throwing a bacchanal in the desert this weekend at the always awesome Pappy And Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace. Inside this edition you’ll find an interview with Manimal founder Paul Beahan, and choice wax from Warpaint (featuring Shannyn Sossamon), Hecuba, Rainbow Arabia, and The Chapin Sister/Winter Flowers.

See you in the desert. Just be sure to leave the vinyl at home.

Not to mention, MP3s from all three, a video, and a fresh chart from Origami Vinyl.

The Best of the Fest: No Age, Wavves, and Japanther + Ninjasonik Slay at L.A.’s FYF (MP3s)

Wow. That was intense. And incredible. Those who survived FYF Fest this weekend in L.A. should be easy enough to spot: dusty clothes, compulsive head-bobbing, bleeding ears. The LA Weekly‘s West Coast Sound blog has been posting some solid roundups of what went down in the Los Angeles State Historic Park, kicked off by yours truly with this entry.

INCHES003: New wax from Flying Lotus, Dublab, Triorganico and Adam Payne (+ MP3s, chart)

Ladies and gentlemen: INCHES003. By journalistic law, this column now qualifies as a trend. Installment number three is actually the first “regular” edition, an unthemed collection of just-released L.A.-relevant vinyl reviewed (with original photos and free MP3s, of course), accompanied by a top ten vinyl sales chart from one of our local record shops. This week, you’ll find a new Flying Lotus EP, some incredible throwback bossa nova by Triorganico, seven inches of Adam Payne jamitude, and a killer Dublab release compiling work from the best of this city’s beat music scene. Plus, see what Vacation Vinyl’s been selling (hint: rhymes with “meth kettle”).
